We came together to stand with our girls
Azad Hicab is a community of people who want to defend the rights of Azerbaijani women.
Who we are
A volunteer-run, free, independent community
What brought us together is what has recently been happening in Azerbaijan: girls and women are being kept out of schools because of the headscarf.
We gathered to object to this practice and to support our girls. What we want is simple: no girl should fall behind in her education.
So we set up free online lessons with women educators, keep a record of what is happening, and raise our voice with dignity.

Four rules that do not change
Women educators only
Lessons are taught by women: girl to girl, woman to girl.
Always free
No learner or family is ever charged.
Privacy
Learners’ names, photos and schools are never shared publicly.
Dignity and respect
We criticise the practice; we insult no one.
