A headscarf is no barrier to learning.

Girls kept out of school because of the headscarf will learn online, free of charge, from volunteer women educators — from primary school to university.

Who it is for

Two paths, one purpose

One learns, one teaches. The purpose is the same: that girls do not fall behind in their lessons.

Learning

For pupils and students

Girls kept out of school because of the headscarf — from primary school to university.

  • Lessons are entirely free; no fee is ever asked, under any name.
  • You are matched with a woman educator by your level, chosen subjects and available time.
  • Lessons take place online, one-to-one or in a small group.
Teaching

For women educators and volunteers

Women teachers or university students who want to volunteer what they know.

  • You choose one or several subjects you want to teach.
  • You tell us the hours that suit you, and teach online from wherever you are.
  • Every match is made between a woman educator and a girl.

Only women educators may teach. There are no exceptions to this rule.

  3. Step 3

    Matching

Each learner is matched with a woman educator by level, subject and time.

  4. Step 4

    Online lessons

Free lessons begin, one-to-one or in a small group: explanation, revision, problem solving.

Why we exist

A classroom door can be closed. The right to learn cannot.

We came together to support these girls.

  • On 7 July 2026, the principles of “national character and secularism” were added to Azerbaijan’s General Education Law; a dress requirement became mandatory for students and education staff in state schools.

  • On 21 September, Cabinet of Ministers decision no. 309 banned clothing deemed incompatible with the school uniform and the secularism principle. In practice, girls who wear the headscarf are not admitted to school and teachers who wear it cannot keep working.

Handwritten Azerbaijani writing on a wall: “Hicab Allahın əmridir, namusdur!”

From the walls

Hicab Allahın əmridir, namusdur!

“The hijab is God's command; it is honour!”

Someone wrote these words on a wall. We say the same: the headscarf is part of a faith, and it can never be a barrier to a girl's education.

Letters to the President

Have your say: leave a note to the President

Write what you think about the ban in your own words, plainly and firmly. Every note is a demand for a girl to return to school.

Notes are published on the letters page after review.
